Israeli citizens of Palestinian descent make up just over 20 percent of Israel’s population. They are also referred to as Arab Israelis, but many of them call themselves Palestinian.
The community lived in this area before the foundation of Israel in 1948. They mainly live in their own villages and towns, such as Nazareth and Umm al-Fahm. The vast majority of them are Muslim.
