Small teams, big money
The study also shows that more than half of New York game developers are independent companies – that is, individuals or teams of up to five people. But even if the companies are small, there is a lot of money in the industry. Venture capital investments even increased massively during the pandemic. The capital raised by games developers was $ 774 million in 2020, more than twice as much as in 2019 ($ 376 million).
