Dusseldorf, Essen The department store group Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof published the long-awaited list on Monday of which branches will be closed and which will continue. According to this, only 77 locations are to be retained in the future, as confirmed by the General Works Council. Among them are top houses like at Alexanderplatz in Berlin, but also branches in smaller cities.
Of the 129 houses so far, 52 are to be closed completely. However, it is possible that there are still concessions from the respective landlords, so that individual houses could still be saved. It is also not yet clear whether some of the 77 locations that will be retained will be taken over by other retailers or investors.
Many branches on the list were expected to give up the location because they probably didn’t generate enough sales or weren’t profitable enough, such as Gelsenkirchen or Cottbus. But there are also surprises.
