Footballers from the Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul were not released on Monday from Athens Airport. On Tuesday, they were supposed to play a preparatory meeting on the ground of the Greek champion Olympiakos Piraeus, but the local authorities did not allow them to enter the country.
The guests showed a maximum of 72 hours of negative tests for COVID-19, but the Greek side claimed that they needed results not older than 24 hours to arrive from Turkey. The expedition from Istanbul refused to undergo new tests and flew back after two hours.
“It was clear discrimination,” Galatasaray stated in an opinion on his official website. “The rules apply equally to everyone,” quoted by AFP from the Greek response.
