Gabon: The new French Embassy inaugurated Gabon: The new French Embassy inaugurated

Libreville, Monday, March 6, 2023 (Gabon Info) – The building was officially put into service on March 2 by President Emmanuel Macron.

On the sidelines of his participation in the first One Forest Summit, the French President proceeded on March 2 in Libreville, Gabon to the inauguration of the new French Embassy. Its design was guided by a high ecological ambition. Already certified HQE (High Environmental Quality), the new embassy aims to obtain the Forest Stewardship Council label, one of the most demanding in terms of sustainable forest management.

It fits best into the wooded park that hosts the site. Most of the outdoor spaces are vegetated to guarantee natural water management, there are more than 8,000 local shrubby plants and nearly 130 trees of various species such as parasol trees or aleps (essences of the Gabonese forest). Energy and water consumption are reduced by 80% and 55% respectively compared to a normal building. Finally, site waste is managed optimally: plant waste is crushed and recycled in the gardens, while mineral waste is recovered for stonework in the nurseries or masonry works in the gardens.

Decided in 2013, the project for a new embassy aimed to bring together in the same building the political chancellery, the consulate general and the treasury for a rationalization of spaces and means, a better reception of the public, and reinforced security. The project is the result of a collaboration between French and Gabonese architectural firms, and the construction was carried out by local companies.
