Gabon-2023 elections: the results still awaited

Gabonese are still awaiting the results more than 48 hours after the presidential, legislative and local elections on Saturday August 26th.

The general elections of Saturday August 26, 2023 in Gabon were marked by numerous dysfunctions, in particular the late opening of certain polling stations. The pressure is now strong on the Gabonese Elections Center which must announce the results. The opposition, for its part, clearly accuses the power in place of being in the process of modifying the results. She calls on the outgoing president, Ali Bongo Ondimba, to accept the sovereign choice of the people after the August 26 elections. The spokesperson for candidate Albert Ondo Ossa, Mike Jocktane, was facing the press on Monday afternoon. According to dw.com, he notably warned against any manipulation of the figures in favor of the incumbent president. He also spoke of intimidation at polling stations.

It should be noted that the elections took place without international observers, African or European, and no foreign journalist received the accreditations requested for media coverage of the polls.
