As part of its policy of supporting research in history, the Ministry of the Armed Forces allocates in 2021 an allocation aimed at financing a doctoral contract in military and defense history managed by a university for a period of three years ( 2021-2024) with a net monthly remuneration of around 1,550 euros.
This doctoral allowance is open to any candidate without distinction of nationality who will register in the first year of the thesis at the start of the academic year following the submission of an application and to any doctoral student registered in the first year of the thesis for the 2020-2021 academic year. The candidate must be enrolled in a French higher education institution.
The purpose of this system is to support a doctoral student whose study falls within one of the research axes deemed to be a priority by the Ministry of the Armed Forces, while offering a sufficiently broad and flexible framework to candidates and doctoral schools.
Applications are submitted for examination by the Scientific Council for Historical Research of Defense (CSRHD). The Heritage, Memory and Archives Department (DPMA) and the Defense Historical Service (SHD) will participate in the scientific monitoring of the successful candidate in conjunction with his thesis director and his affiliate doctoral school.
