A scandal involving alleged violations of laws regarding political donations may lead to the resignation of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida from his post as head of the faction of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). This was reported by the Kyodo agency.
According to the agency, the scandal erupted over funds raised through receptions and evenings, in which business representatives buy tickets costing 20 thousand yen (about $136).
According to the publication, quotas are set for their number. And amounts exceeding them are expected to be transferred to deputies from the LDP. However, this is not reflected in the financial statements. Thus, it is assumed that this money could be used as secret funds.
According to Japanese media reports, Tokyo prosecutors are currently investigating the matter.
