Full of electricity soon much more expensive than gasoline on the highway

As the leading supplier of charging stations for electric vehicles on European highways, Ionity has decided to change its pricing and will now charge full electricity per kilowatt hour.

Driving in an electric car is more ecological than driving with a gasoline vehicle. However, is it really more economical? Until then, it was on highways, since recharging your vehicle via Ionity terminals, the main supplier of charging stations on European highways, only cost a fixed price of 8 euros. However, the price will explode from January 31, since Ionity will change its rules, and now charge the recharge at 0.79 euro per kilowatt hour. For example, for a motorist who would have planned a trip of five hours, and whose car consumes an average of 20 kWh / 100 km, the “full” of electricity will be charged close to 80 euros … or ten times more before. In comparison, in the same scenario, refueling a petrol vehicle with a consumption of 6 liters / 100 km would cost “only” 45 euros, with fuel billed at 1.50 euros / liters on average.

Why this sudden rise in the price of “full” electricity? According to the vice-president of Ionity, the desire to charge users for charging stations by the kilowatt hour is explained by network power and fast charging. Each installation is capable of recharging six cars at 200 kW, and even up to 350 kW per vehicle. However, this new price may vary depending on the type of vehicle. Service partner brands, including BMW and Wolkswagen will thus be able to benefit from preferential rates. Ionity would also think of a package system in order to lower the prices for regular users of the terminals.

To date, Ionity has 202 charging stations installed across Europe, including 40 stations in France. The group hopes to expand the number of charging stations to 400 by the end of the year in Europe.
