FSB General Explains Belarusian Army Maneuvers Near Borders

A natural measure in a political crisis

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko clearly did not expect a violent reaction from most of his fellow citizens to the results of the presidential elections. This can be seen from the sharp change in the foreign policy vector of his rhetoric. If before the elections he kept mentioning the “Kremlin puppeteers”, then after the mass protests he started talking about the “clanking of the tracks” of NATO tanks on the borders of Belarus and asked Putin for help. Lukashenka gave orders to the military to begin exercises and raise the level of combat readiness. MK asked an expert to evaluate these steps.

According to the member of the Supreme Council of the All-Russian movement “Strong Russia”, FSB General Alexander Mikhailov, Lukashenko’s “military maneuvers” are a natural reaction to events in the country and abroad.

“The concentration of forces on the border is natural,” he said. – A crisis situation always requires bringing the law enforcement and security agencies, including the armed forces, to increased combat readiness. This is normal. Military exercises and troop movements should be treated as natural measures to be taken under such conditions.

-Lukashenka talks about the clanging of NATO tracks at the borders …

-It is possible that the neighbors of Belarus are taking some military measures. Surely, instability in Belarus is causing them concern. They begin to think about what to expect from her.

As for possible aggressive plans against our neighbor and the CSTO member state, I really hope that no one will invade the territory of Belarus. I think it’s smart enough not to do this. If only because they, wishing to weaken Lukashenka, thereby only raise his authority and create a very powerful nucleus of resistance around him.
