Shortly after 7.30 a.m. on Saturday morning, the police found an infant at the work yard in Därstetten, Bern. According to a message, a private person discovered the newborn girl and alerted the emergency services. An ambulance team cared for the hypothermic newborn on site, then the girl was flown to the hospital in critical condition.
The Bern cantonal police have launched an investigation to clarify the child’s origin and identity. She assumes that the girl was taken to the workshop immediately after birth. The police are looking for witnesses. She asks the child’s relatives – especially the mother – to report. This also serves to be able to ensure any medical care for the mother, the message says.
