John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) is one of the most notorious gangsters in US history. Charming and dangerous, the legendary bank robber becomes public enemy number one and the main target of J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup), his fledgling FBI and his best agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale). But in addition to being a criminal pursued by the law, Dillinger is also a hero to the masses. There’s no bank he can’t break into and no prison to hold him. Even the agent who shot “Pretty” Nelson, the impressive Purvis (billed by the press as the “Clark Gable of the FBI”) is no match for Gillinger and his gang of “public enemies.”
