From Montauban to Belgium, the unique network of thieves from several countries

The jewelry were stolen in France then elapsed in Belgium. And the burglars of Albanian, the stoppers of Chechens, of Belgians and French.

This unprecedented international theft has just been dismantled by the gendarmes. Investigators have in fact uncovered operational links between the Albanian and Chechen criminal communities in Russia.

On Tuesday November 19, the gendarmes arrest ten criminals in France and in Belgium. Investigators suspect them of having participated in a network of stolen jewelry in the southwest. Ten arrests then made by the gendarmes of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques group, the Toulouse research section and the Central Office for the fight against itinerant delinquency (OCLDI). They are accused of more than 33 trips between Montauban and Belgium, over the past year and a half, to sell more than 330,000 euros in stolen jewelry.

80 home burglaries

In May 2018, a first operation led to the arrest of five Albanians suspected of more than 80 house burglaries in two regions: Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie. The soldiers of the Lescar research brigade (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), supported by investigators from the Toulouse research section and the OCLDI, identify a team of Albanian thieves. They deposit their loot with a concealer jeweler located in Montauban, originally from the Chechen community in Russia.

The investigation continues in February 2019 on a letter rogatory from an examining magistrate from the TGI of Pau. A letter rogatory awarded for “thefts and conceals committed by organized gangs, aggravated money laundering and non-justification of resources ”. Investigators from the national investigation cell, dubbed “OCLDI Alba 64-82 ″, identify the role of this jeweler. He would be the collector of stolen jewelry. The burglars belong to several communities: Georgian, Slovak, Romanian, Albanian and French Travelers. They operate in the southwest of France. The investigators also identify a Belgian jeweler linked to that of Montauban. They represent more than 33 trips between France and Belgium.

110 gendarmes mobilized

In agreement with a magistrate from the TGI of Pau and the Belgian judicial and police authorities, an operation mobilizes 110 gendarmes. It was therefore conducted on Tuesday, November 19 in several departments of the southwest, in Ile-de-France and in Belgium. The searches made it possible to seize a silver bar (value 7,500 euros), 15 gold coins, more than 300 jewels, 14,360 euros in cash, a Mini Cooper (value 17,400 euros) and 26,665 euros deposited in bank accounts. Without forgetting a very precious oven to melt the gold of stolen jewelry. After their presentation before the magistrate in Palau, five of the ten accused criminals were placed in pre-trial detention.
