The word ‘carrera’ in Spanish means ‘race’ and also ‘career’, but it is most commonly used to describe certain car races on closed tracks. The most impressive was the Carrera Panamericana race, which ran more than 3,200 km through the Mexican deserts, mountains and jungles.
–
The first such race took place in 1950, and by 1952 it had attracted the attention of several of the world’s fastest car manufacturers, including Porsche.
–
When Porsche entered the endurance race, it received awards from 1952 to 1954, strengthening its reputation as a reliable carmaker. Inspired by the success, where the key to success was the 550 Spyder, about a year after the last race, Porsche released a model called the Carrera.

In 2014, the company expanded the range of SUV models by presenting Macan.
–
The name of this collection was chosen by the producer, inspired by the Javanese word “macan”, which refers to the rare and endangered Sumatran tiger. The Macan developers said the model incorporates the tiger’s agility and performance behind an elegant exterior design.
–
Interestingly, Macan originally wanted to be called Cajun, in honor of South Louisiana Gulf communities. However, the manufacturer later decided to give the compact off-roader the name “Macan”.

Like the Carrera, the origin of the Panamera model is linked to the legendary six-day Carrera Panamericana endurance race. In this race, on the route from the Mexican / US border to Guatemala, the track also led along the Panamerica highway.
