Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey Tribbiani in the TV series for many years Friends, responds for the first time to the death of Matthew Perry. Courteney Cox, who played Monica, also responds: “Grateful for every moment I had with you.” She also says that Chandler and Monica were not originally supposed to be a set.
“Matthew, it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to you,” LeBlanc’s message begins. “The times we spent together are among the best of my life. It was an honor to share the stage with you and call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I will never forget you . Never.”
The 56-year-old actor ends his message in a funny way. “Spread your wings and fly, brother. You’re finally free. And I guess you’ll keep the twenty dollars you owe me.”
Also colleague Courteney Cox, who appeared in the final seasons of Friends has a relationship with Perry’s character, looks back in a special way. “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I will miss you every day,” she begins.
She continues, “When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now, this is one of my favorites. First, some background: Chandler and Monica would only one one night stand have in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it was the start of their love story. In this scene, just before shooting, Matthew whispered a funny line to me for me to say. He did things like this often. He was funny and he was friendly.”
‘We are a family’
Two days after Perry’s death, all shared Friendsactors have already sent a short joint message. “We were more than just cast members. We are a family,” the actors wrote in a statement. “There is so much to say, but now we take a moment to grieve and process this tremendous loss.”
Perry died late last month at the age of 54. He played the role of Chandler Bing for ten seasons Friends.
