French sister André dies at age 118 as oldest person in the world | Abroad

The French sister André, as far as is known the oldest person in the world, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 118. She died in her sleep in a retirement home in Toulon, southern France.

“There is great sadness, but she wanted it, it was her wish to join her beloved brother,” said a spokesman for the retirement home. Sister André was blind and dependent on a wheelchair.

Born in 1904, Lucile Randon took the name Sister André in 1944 as a member of a Catholic order. Two years ago she was in the news when she survived an infection with the corona virus.

After the death of the Japanese Kane Tanaka (119) in April last year, the nun André was known as the oldest living person on earth. It is not immediately clear who is the oldest person on earth.
