French President Macrony offers asylum to Russian TV journalist Ovysanikova – Abroad – News

“We will, of course, take diplomatic steps to protect our colleague, either at the embassy or by granting asylum,” Macron said in response to a question from a French journalist.

Makron said he would propose this solution very directly and specifically in his next talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“In any case, I would like us to have full clarity about her personal situation and the opportunity to continue her work as soon as possible,” Macron said.

Moscow’s Ostankin court on Tuesday fined Ovsyanikov 30,000 rubles (about 250 euros) for displaying an anti-war poster on television. She was released after being fined.

Ovsyanikov was reportedly drawn up a protocol under an article of the Code of Administrative Offenses on an uncoordinated public measure, which provides for a fine of up to 30,000 rubles, 50 hours of compulsory labor or 10 days’ arrest.

Makron emphasized France’s solidarity with journalists from Ukraine or Russia who were reporting on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and were under pressure. France condemns any detention of journalists, the president said during a visit to a Ukrainian refugee reception center.
