French players’ union calls to end all competitions NOW

The French players’ union UNFP considers it sensible to end all football competitions. Chairman Sylvain Kastendeuch does not understand that plans are still being made to finish the season.

“Without players there is no football. We must therefore protect them from the risks to which they are exposed,” Kastendeuch writes in his column Monday Le Monde.

“Medical research from the UNFP and FIFPro (the International Players’ Union, ed.) Reveals major physical risks if a player has to take action every three days after such a long period without football. It causes fatigue, a greater chance of muscle injuries and therefore less performance. “

Kastendeuch believes that the question should be asked out loud whether it is in the interest of the players to finish the season at all costs. “Because it can really become a problem for their career and for the sport.”

It is as yet unclear what will happen to the European competitions, which have been suspended for some time due to the corona crisis. At the beginning of this month, UEFA called on all national federations not to stop.

The European Football Association and the affiliated countries will meet on Tuesday about the end of the season. At least, according to British media, UEFA plans to end the football year on August 29 with the Champions League final in Istanbul.
