French Economy Minister thinks Russia could completely cut off gas supplies to Europe

The minister noted that the French government is working to identify companies that should receive priority protection in the event of interruptions in gas supplies.

French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire warned of the extremely high probability that Moscow will completely cut off supplies gas to Europe.

About this he said at the economic forum in the city of Aix-en-Provence.

“We are preparing for a complete cessation of Russian gas supplies. Today this is the most likely option,” Le Maire said.

The minister noted that the French government is working to identify companies that should receive priority protection in the event of interruptions in gas supplies.

Le Maire cited Saint-Gobain, a major building materials manufacturer, as an example of companies that should not be cut off from gas supply even in the event of an emergency.

The French government has proposed a number of measures to manage possible gas supply disruptions, including the ability to requisition gas-fired power plants as part of a broader legislative proposal on purchasing power. The bill will be discussed in the French National Assembly next week.

Formerly in the EU developed a plan in the event of a cessation of Russian gas supplies.
