The popular cinema am Rang is back in Freising after a two-year Corona break. The program continues until Saturday.

Freising – “Aaaand – film off!” Prima leben und stereo eV, in short: Plus, has done it again: After a break caused by Corona, cinema returned on Friday. This was urgently needed, as the reception on Friday evening impressively demonstrated: At 9.30 p.m., around half an hour before the cinematic event began with “Bohemian Rhapsody”, the ranks in the ranks were full. Either equipped with fluffy blankets and towels or in a comfortable camping chair with soft padding, the people of Vötting arrived to enjoy the summer evening.

The film is of secondary importance for most visitors

For most visitors, it was probably of secondary importance which film was flickering across the huge screen at the start of cinema in 2022. Like Julia Holzmann from Freising, for example, who was particularly happy to spend a nice evening in company. Cinema on the rank – “that was really missing,” she says, who counts herself among the regular guests of the Plus event. Even if Julia Holzmann couldn’t watch the film on Friday, the Oscar-winning story about the rock band Queen and their frontman, the charismatic singer Freddie Mercury: Franziska, the six-month-old daughter, had to go to bed.

It’s a bit different with Verena Fiedler: She’s also a regular at Kino am Rang, for her it’s not that important which film is being shown, for her, too, meeting friends is the most important thing. But she can stay until Bohemian Rhapsody is over.

The visitors were allowed to get active themselves at the grill

Of course, drinks were and are provided at the cinema at the rank. You must (or may) bring your own food. And already on Friday the large grill had been heated up, on which fans of charcoal and smoke could prepare their own meat. But that was it for the most part with the tasting. Holzmann found that a pity, but Lacanto, the restaurant that opened in April, did not want to take over the catering for the guests, according to the organizers.

Florian Wiesheu from Freising wasn’t all that sad about it, after all, two beers are also a schnitzel, as he joked. Wiesheu, who, as a former winner of the Freising barbecue championships, which used to be held as part of Kino am Rang, hardly missed any of the cinematic open-air offerings from Plus, only had one suggestion for improvement – admittedly not entirely serious: “Free beer !“

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

While Wiesheu chose “Bohemian Rhapsody” as his favorite film of the year 2022 at Kino, for Julia Scholbeck from Munich it is “Der Rausch”, which will be shown on Monday. She used to be a regular at Kino am Rang when she was still living in Freising, but since she has been living in Munich it is no longer that easy to come to Freising for several evenings. And while music from CDs rolls out of the speakers until the screening begins, Scholbeck recalls previous Kino am Rang events, when live bands played before the films. “I think that’s nice.” The organizers also think that’s nice, but young people’s groups and school bands, who used to be given the chance to perform and who were happy about it, can no longer be found.

“It’s nice not to have to work sometimes”

Reinhard Fiedler is one of those who is seeing cinema at the Rang with different eyes this year and experiencing it differently than in the past. He, who for many years as head of Plus had a lot of work and stress in the run-up to and at the events of the “culture amplifier”, watched the hustle and bustle calmly on Friday. “It’s also nice not having to work.” And sometimes nice to know that you could just go home when it starts to rain.

But this danger did not exist at the weekend. And hopefully that will remain so until Saturday, when “Aladdin”, the last film from cinema in 2022, will be shown on the screen.
