Free flu shot for caregivers

Door: Britta Janssen Tuesday, October 20, 16:36 – 2020

MIDDELBURG – GGD Zeeland provides a free flu shot for people who care for loved ones.

The flu season is upon us. In addition, more people have health problems due to the increasing number of corona infections. “A simultaneous outbreak of both viruses can have major consequences for the continuity of care in the province,” said GGD Zeeland on Tuesday. That is why the health service is making a free flu shot available for informal caregivers who do not receive a call for the flu shot from their GP.

Transfer

General practitioners send a call for the flu shot to patients who are sixty years old or older or who belong to a risk group. ‘Informal carers are indispensable for those they care for. Even if they normally do not suffer much from the flu themselves, carers can pass on the virus unintentionally. ‘ GGD Zeeland is therefore making the flu shot available for informal carers on a large scale for the first time, in collaboration with the Zeeland Safety Region and a large number of Zeeland care institutions.

Flu vaccination rate

This initiative is part of a larger campaign to increase the flu vaccination rate in Zeeland. In addition to informal carers, the Zeeland care personnel also form an important target group.

Informal carers can register from 16 November via www.ggdzeeland.nl/griepprik. ‘The more informal carers opt for the flu shot, the greater the chance that we will get through the winter together in good health.’
