A few hours earlier, Hertha BSC had celebrated an important victory in the fight against relegation. The Berliners came to a 4-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach at their home Olympic Stadium. Jessic Ngankam (30′), Marton Dardai (52′), Derry Scherhant (91′) and Dodi Lukebakio (97’/penalty) shot Hertha to their first league win of the year.

Thanks to the success, the team of coach Sandro Schwarz left the direct relegation zone and pushed VfB Stuttgart from relegation place 16. Nico Elvedi (17th) had the guests, with whom Hannes Wolf played until the 66th and Stefan Lainer from the 90th minute, brought into the lead.
