Thanks to the stable low incidence, level 2 of the Hessian corona rules has been in effect in Frankfurt am Main since Monday, June 7th. Appointments and contact follow-up are no longer necessary for a visit to the palm garden. In addition, there is no mask requirement in the open air of the Palmengarten. This is made possible by adapting the general decree of the city. However, a medical mask must still be worn in all interior rooms of the Palmengarten – i.e. in the show houses and in the closed area of the Siesmayerstraße ticket office.

“With the renewed easing, the visit to the palm garden is now much easier and more carefree. And they come at exactly the right time, not just because summer is finally here, ”says Palmengarten director Katja Heubach. On March 16, the palm garden turned 150 years old. Many program items in the anniversary year, which the gardening team has been planning for its guests for around two years, had to be postponed for known reasons. “Now our projects can finally pick up speed,” says Heubach happily.

In the open air, historical lines of sight illustrate how the palm garden has changed: At prominent points, stations with historical images invite you to make direct comparison with today’s lines of sight. From mid-June onwards, prick up your ears in various places in the garden, including the footbridge over the large pond, the steppe area or the apiary in the botanical garden. “Soundtracks from flora and fauna, recorded and put together by Lasse-Marc Riek, offer acoustic impressions from the world of animals and plants under the heading ‘Transformations’. At the listening stations, listeners receive answers to questions such as ‘Do plants make music – and what music do they like?’, ‘How did the palm garden sound 100 years ago?’, Or ‘What do you hear underwater?’ ”Reports Heubach.

The walk-in pavilion ‘imd_plant transistor’ on the playground, which was currently being built in cooperation with the Institute for Material Design at the Offenbach University of Design, deals with the topic of transformation and asks whether plants react to people, and even interact with them and if so, then how.

The music season is to start in July with a tried and tested hygiene concept. Tickets for jazz, blues, chamber opera and the concerts in cooperation with the Mousonturm will be available soon
