Frankfurt and Leverkusen reached semi-finals in the DFB Cup

Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen moved into the semi-finals of the German Football Cup on Wednesday with home wins. The Frankfurt team won with the ÖFB team players Martin Hinteregger and Stefan Ilsanker in the quarterfinals against Werder Bremen 2-0 (1-0). Leverkusen still defeated Union Berlin 3: 1 (0: 1) after deficit.

Frankfurt can dream of their sixth cup triumph, the first under coach Adi Hütter. In the semifinals, however, Vorarlberg has to forego top performers Filip Kostic. The Serbian received the red card (91.) for a rough foul on Werders Ömer Toprak in added time.

Before that, a penalty from Andre Silva had brought Frankfurt to Siegerstrasse (45th + 6th). After changing sides, European Cup hero Daichi Kamada (60th) increased. In the Europa League home game against Salzburg (4: 1) two weeks ago, the Japanese had scored in triplicate. The postponement of the second leg in Salzburg (2-2) by one day had meant that the league duel planned for Sunday between Bremen and Frankfurt had been postponed.

In the Cup, however, there was a duel with the relegation candidate. Hinteregger played through in central defense, Ilsanker in midfield. The latter had to put up with a turban. Ilsanker had suffered a cut under the eyebrow before the break, but persisted despite the bruise. With the Bremen team, Marco Friedl was on the bench as well as his compatriots Julian Baumgartlinger, Aleksandar Dragovic and Ramazan Özcan at Leverkusen.

The Leverkusen victory was overshadowed by a medical emergency. Paramedics ran into the lower spectator rank in the first half, pulled out one person, covered them with blankets and started resuscitation attempts. The spectators then stopped their songs for half an hour, every single call in the stadium was suddenly heard. Shortly after the break, Bayer tweeted that the fan was on the way to the hospital.

After goals from Karim Bellarabi (72nd), Charles Aranguiz (86th) and Moussa Diaby (91st), the Werkself can continue to dream of the first title since the cup victory in 1993. Marcus Ingvartsen (39th) had put the Berliners in the lead. After a yellow-red card against Christopher Lenz (71.), the strength waned. The substitution of ÖFB team player Christopher Trimmel (73.) did not change anything.

Fourth division club 1. FC Saarbrücken and champions and defending champions Bayern Munich had already reached the semi-finals on Tuesday. The draw of the preliminary round will take place on Sunday, the game will be played on 21/22. April. The finale will take place on May 23 in Berlin.
