Wild challenge in the Wild West on “Roadtrip America”: In Texas, top chefs Frank Rosin, Alexander Kumptner and Ali Güngörmüş try what is probably the spiciest burger in the world. Rosin dares a hearty bite – with painful consequences.

Frank Rosin thinks this snack has nothing to do with food: “It’s pure masochism.” A burned throat, sweating and dizziness are the painful consequences of what is probably the spiciest burger in the world. “It’s a pain I’ve never felt in my life,” the TV chef wails after the leftovers end up in the bucket provided.

The so-called “4 Horsemen Burger” – named after the four horsemen of the apocalypse – is the greatest culinary challenge for the three top chefs Frank Rosin, Alexander Kumptner and Ali Güngörmüş on their “Roadtrip America” (Thursdays, 8.15 p.m., on Kabel Eins).

“We are such bastards, it’s unbelievable”

The saving bucket is not ready for nothing. So far, around 20,000 people have tried the hell of a burger at the Texas restaurant “Chunky’s Burger and more”. The waiter explains that no one has died, but: “Some came to the hospital.” Even when Rosin dares to take a look behind the scenes in advance, the otherwise self-confident Ruhrpott chef is completely different. The ingredients include the hottest chillies in the world: so-called ghost chillies, 30 times hotter than pure cayenne pepper.

“Here we are literally torn open,” he announces to his travel buddies. At the latest when the rubber gloves are brought to the table, the trio becomes completely different. “We’re such bastards, it’s unbelievable,” exclaims Alex Kumptner. Then Rosin gathers all her courage and treats herself to a fateful bite. Kumptner follows suit with a small bite, Güngörmüş capitulates. Then the chef comes and simply eats one of the spirit chilies pure, for Ali a “demonstration of power”.

In Las Vegas, the three chefs have a lot more fun

The three professional chefs have much more fun at their previous stop: Las Vegas, the city of sin. After they crash a wedding with the hot dogs they have brought with them, which of course also includes a moderately talented Elvis impersonator, it’s off to the casino. In the case of the competitive alpha males, even the roulette game turns into a competition (Kumptner: “I’m going to split the two up now”).

In particular, the Viennese get the gambling fever – is it because of the free drinks? Well tipsy is used again and again. Fun is guaranteed, but no one is particularly successful, and even the scantily clad showgirls don’t seem to bring luck to the German tourists. “It has to be red at some point,” Ali apparently didn’t quite understand the principle of gambling. “It always comes black, ey!” The failure at the roulette table causes the trio to quarrel with fate – until Frank Rosin finally clears the ball with a zero.

Frank Rosin only stays on the bull for seven seconds

But everyone can be lucky, in the Wild West talent is required: After the three top chefs have dressed up in cowboy hats and boots, they measure themselves against the mechanical bull. Ali Güngörmüş is hoping for a lot of Schadenfreude from the wild ride: “I wish that they would really fall flat on their faces.” They all come down eventually, but some faster than others. While Alex Kumptner stays on the electric bull for 24 seconds, Frank Rosin says goodbye after just seven seconds.

The European temporary cowboys can see how the pros do it directly opposite, because the real rodeo takes place in the arena. Rosin, Kumptner and Güngörmüş suffer in the stands while the cowboys try to keep their hold on the real wild bulls. They don’t have to face the danger of broken bones, after all, the pain caused by the spirits Chili does, too.
