Francesco Schiavone ‘Sandokan’ of the Casalesi Camorra Clan Decides to Collaborate with Justice After 26 Years in Prison: Potential Revelations and Implications

He was one of the last diehards of the Casalese Camorra, custodian of important secrets, but after 26 years in prison, most spent under the hard prison regime, Francesco Schiavone, known as Sandokan, undisputed leader of the Casalesi clan, decided to collaborate with Justice. This was reported by the paper edition of the newspaper “Cronache di Caserta”.

The start of the collaboration process by Francesco Schiavone, nicknamed ‘Sandokan’, is confirmed by the National Anti-Mafia Directorate. According to what we understand, the decision was made in recent weeks, during which the DNA and the DDA of Naples carried out work with the utmost discretion. Schiavone was arrested in July 1998 and has since been imprisoned under the 41 bis regime. Two of his sons, Nicola and Walter, also started the same path now undertaken by their father a few years ago.

After the news of the decision of the super boss Francesco Schiavone ‘Sandokan’ to repent, for now the other historic head of the Casalesi Francesco Bidognetti, known as “Cicciotto e Mezzanotte”, in prison since 1993, and Michele Zagaria, captured on 7 December 2011 after sixteen years on the run. Antonio Iovine, “o ninno”, arrested in 2010 after 15 years on the run, also appears among the Casalesi bosses who have decided to collaborate with justice.

Schiavone was arrested in 1998 and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Spartacus maxi trial and for several murders; before him, his first-born son Nicola decided to repent in 2018, then his second son Walter in 2021. The other sons Emanuele Libero, who will be released from his cell next August, and Carmine remain in prison, while Sandokan’s wife, Giuseppina Nappa, is not in Casal di Principe. Sandokan’s decision could also be a message to some not to try to reorganize the clan, a way to put a tombstone on the aspirations of other possible successors. Francesco Schiavone’s collaboration could shed light on some unsolved mysteries, such as the killing of the clan’s founder Antonio Bardellino in Brazil in 1988, or on the connections between the Camorra and politics.

Campania journalists legality commission, Schiavone tell everything

“If the collaboration is respectful of the truth, some pieces of history known up to now will change and will be rewritten based on what really happened. Starting with the disappearance of Antonio Bardellino and the identity of the political and entrepreneurial sides of the clan”. Thus, the members of the Legality commission of the Order of Journalists of Campania, president Marilù Musto and deputy Tina Cioffo, after learning of the path towards collaboration with the justice system of the clan leader of the Casalesi cartel Francesco Schiavone “Sandokan” after 26 years in prison hard. “Schiavone could, first of all, clarify whether the 41 bis has worked in recent years, but above all he could reveal the network of relationships between the Camorra and the business and political wing which has allowed the survival of one of the most dangerous criminal groups in Europe. many bloody events, the judicial truth has already achieved many results even without his help”. The commission – also composed of Vincenzo Sbrizzi, Giovanni Taranto, Luisa Del Prete, Anna Liberatore, Nicole Lanzano and Federica Landolfi – hopes “that the pacts that have “condemned the outskirts of Caserta and Naples to identification with the Earth will be made known of fires due to illegal dumping of special waste, so that the creation of a circular system for waste disposal was not possible. Schiavone should make known his contacts with the mafias in the Vesuvian area”.
