France: Solidarity beyond confessions in Saint-Germain-en-Laye

In Saint-Germain-en-Laye, in the Yvelines, the association Solidarité évangélique, found itself on the front line to feed sixty families of migrants settled in the town, reports the site. Actu.fr. With the coronavirus health crisis, the cessation of food donations from supermarkets, the closure of Heart Restaurants and other social structures, the evangelical solidarity grocery store can only count on another foundation to collect food. Then there is a shortage of food.

Informed of the situation, on April 3, Father Benoît Chevalier, parish priest of Saint-Léger parish, launched an appeal for donations from his faithful. “In twenty-four hours, the presbytery of Saint-Léger was overflowing with food,” says Isabelle Demoures, member of the migrant operation for the parish. Books, games and hygiene products are also collected.

The volunteers of the Catholic parish therefore provide food to the volunteers of the evangelical charity which distributes it. “Joined together by their faith, these Christians have forged links between them. Priest and pastor got to know each other ”, note Actu.fr. The two communities remain mobilized while donations from supermarkets gradually resume.
