France requisitions protective masks

The French government will requisition, by means of a decree published on Wednesday, the stocks of protective masks against the spread of the coronavirus, a measure that President Emmanuel Macron had announced.

Published in the Official Journal, the text “relating to the requisitions necessary in the context of the fight against the Covid-19 virus“aims to ensure priority access to this equipment for healthcare professionals and patients affected by the disease.

The stocks of FFP2 type respiratory protection masks held by “any legal person under public or private law“and the stocks of anti-splash masks held by the companies which manufacture or distribute them.

Respiratory protection masks type FFP2 and anti-spray masks produced by May 31 are requisitioned, insists the decree.

The measure had been announced by Macron on Tuesday on Twitter, to respond to the concern of health workers fearing that they would not be able to obtain the masks essential in their profession.

France is one of the main centers of the new virus in Europe, along with Italy and Germany.

With four deaths and more than 200 confirmed cases on its territory, or a doubling in three days, the country is preparing for a new intensification of the epidemic which now affects the daily life of the French.
