The President of France Emanuels makrons ordered the immediate recall of the two ambassadors because of the “gravity of the Australia-US statement of 15 September”, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Ledriane said.
The abandonment of the ocean-class submarine project that Australia and France have been working on since 2016 is “unacceptable behavior between allies and partners,” Ledria said.
“The consequences affect our alliance, our partnership concept, and the Indian-Pacific [reģiona] importance for Europe. “
President of the United States Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday announced the formation of a new strategic defense alliance to provide Australia with US nuclear submarine construction technology, as well as cyber defense, artificial intelligence and submarine technology.
The pact for such an alliance is seen as opposed to China’s consolidation in the region.
France is outraged by this alliance because it has lost its contract to supply conventional submarines to Australia. At the time of signing the contract in 2016, it was worth A $ 50 billion (€ 31 billion).
France’s decision to recall ambassadors from its allies, the United States and Australia, is an unprecedented step.
