FPI Claims Members Do Not Enforce, Police: If Lied Can Be Convicted

Jakarta

Polda Metro Jaya respond to claims from Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) who denied that their troops had firearm when involved in a clash with the police at Jakarta-Cikampek toll road. The police confirmed that they have strong evidence regarding the possession of firearms from the FPI member.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus also reminded that any information that does not conform to facts and is disseminated from the incident can be charged with criminal threats.

“If there is a statement like that (the FPI special laskar does not have enentives) do not spread fake news. It can be criminalized,” said Yusri at the Jakarta Police Headquarters, Jakarta, Tuesday (8/12/2020).

According to Yusri, his party has obtained a number of evidences regarding the possession of firearms from the FPI members. For that he asked the public to refrain from spreading the unclear news regarding the incident.

Yusri said one of the evidence that the police had pocketed was the identification of the bullets used by the perpetrators. He said that the special laskar guards for Habib Rizieq Shihab used 9 mm caliber bullets when attacking the officer’s car.

He added that his party would now conduct ballistic tests to strengthen these findings.

“(Bullets) 9 mm. It is still a ballistic test, that’s why we are still studying every piece of evidence. Later we will hold pre-reconstruction and reconstruction. In time we will convey it,” said Yusri.
