VfB Stuttgart has at least temporarily taken over the lead in the Bundesliga. Thanks to two goals and an assist from Serhou Guirassy, a home win against Darmstadt was achieved.
FC Bayern Munich – VfL Bochum 7:0 (4:0)
A furious FC Bayern team led by record scorer Harry Kane got in the mood for the traditional Oktoberfest visit. The record champions won 7-0 (4-0) against the overwhelmed VfL Bochum with three goals from Kane and took the lead in the Bundesliga table for the first time with the mandatory win against one of their favorite opponents. On Sunday, the Bayern stars will celebrate with their families at Oktoberfest – before the hot autumn begins.
Bayern took an early lead through Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in front of 75,000 spectators (4th). The outstanding Kane quickly followed up (12th). Borussia Dortmund – VfL Wolfsburg 1:0 (0:0)
Marco Reus has banished signs of a crisis at Borussia Dortmund. Four days after the Champions League disappointment at Paris St. Germain, the long-time captain of the runner-up scored in the 71st minute to make it 1-0 (0-0) in an unsightly Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg. BVB’s connection to the top remains intact, with Wolfsburg suffering their second defeat of the season on matchday 5.
1. FC Union Berlin – TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 0:2 (0:2)
After the highlight game at Real Madrid in the Bundesliga, Union Berlin finally slipped into a results crisis. With an unfortunate Bundesliga debutant and European champion Leonardo Bonucci, coach Urs Fischer’s team lost 0-2 (0-2) against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday. Three days after the bitter 1-0 defeat at Real in the Champions League, the Berliners suffered their fourth competitive defeat in a row.
Andrej Kramaric (22nd, penalty kick) and Maximilian Beier (38th) scored for Hoffenheim with his fourth goal of the season. After their third league defeat in a row, the Iron have six points from five games.
Borussia Mönchengladbach – RB Leipzig 1:0 (0:0)
Thanks to Timo Werner, RB Leipzig celebrated their fifth win in a row on Max Eberl’s heated return to Mönchengladbach. In the 1-0 (0-0) win against Borussia, Werner (75th), who had been substituted just five minutes earlier, scored the winning goal. Borussia remains winless under new coach Gerardo Seoane.
FC Augsburg – FSV Mainz 05 2:1 (2:1)
Double packer Ermedin Demirovic gave coach Enrico Maaßen a breather at FC Augsburg and increased the worries of FSV Mainz 05. The captain secured only the second win in the last 17 competitive games for the Bavarian Swabians in a 2-1 (2-1) draw against the bottom of the table. For his coach Maaßen, who was under pressure, it was the liberation he had hoped for, but the guests remained winless.
Ludovic Ajorque (6th) put the 05ers in the lead in a hard-fought duel with his first goal of the season. But Demirovic (15th, 45th) hit back with his second Bundesliga brace, his first goal was the 500th in Augsburg’s Bundesliga history – in the 413th game. No club took longer to reach this mark.
Werder Bremen – 1. FC Cologne 2:1 (1:1)
Werder Bremen achieved an important victory in the Bundesliga. Coach Ole Werner’s team won 2-1 (1-1) over 1. FC Köln on Saturday evening. In front of 42,100 spectators in the Weserstadion, substitute Justin Njinmah (67th minute) scored the winning goal for Werder with his first touch of the ball. After former Bremen player Davie Selke (31′) had given the guests the lead, Rafael Borré (38′) equalized. After their second win of the season, Werder improved to tenth place in the table with six points, Cologne is in the relegation zone with one point, level on points with Darmstadt and Mainz.
Bayer Leverkusen – 1. FC Heidenheim (Sunday, 3:30 p.m.)
Situation: Leverkusen is top of the table, won three times and drew 2-2 at FC Bayern. But Heidenheim also comes with self-confidence, recently getting their first point in a 2-2 draw in Dortmund and then their first win in a 4-2 win against Bremen.
Statistics: You could say that Heidenheim has a clean slate against Bayer. FCH has won their only duel so far: 2-1 in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup in 2019.
Personal: Bayer coach Alonso is likely to rotate back on a large scale compared to the 4-0 win against Häcken in the Europa League. He is only missing the three long-term injured players. Heidenheim still has to make do without Busch.
Special: In the last three games, Heidenheim has always had a penalty whistled for and against them. This has never happened before in the history of the Bundesliga.
Eintracht Frankfurt – SC Freiburg (Sunday, 5.30 p.m.)
Situation: Both teams ended their international duties during the week victoriously. But in the league they are still lagging behind their demands. Frankfurt have only won once so far, but are still undefeated. After two opening successes, Freiburg recently lost twice in a row.
Statistics: The home record speaks for Frankfurt. Most recently there was a 2-1 win for the Hessians on matchday 34 of the previous season. But a year before that, the Breisgau team won with the same result.
Personal: Frankfurt must replace Rode, who was forced out injured against Aberdeen. Toppmöller could also give Aaronson a break. Chaibi could rotate into the starting eleven for him. Tuta should return to his usual place in the defensive line. Midfield veteran Höfler is missing from SC, but U21 national player Röhl is expected to start in his place.
Special: Frankfurt’s chef will see his old teammates again. The defender played for SC from 2017 to 2020, where he became a national team player before moving to Leeds United in England. He has been lacing up his football boots for Eintracht since the start of the season.
