After a swimming accident in Schlachtensee, a 30-year-old man died on Saturday evening. As a police spokeswoman said on Sunday, passersby had observed how the man had gone under in the middle of the lake and had not reappeared. According to the fire department, an emergency call was received at 7:21 p.m.
Rescue workers, including divers from the DRK, were able to rescue the man and immediately began resuscitation, which was then continued in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
The resuscitation was stopped there at around 8:48 p.m., said the police spokeswoman. So far there is no evidence of third-party negligence, the police have initiated a death investigation, as is usual in such cases.
It is the fourth fatal swimming accident this year. Most recently, a 26-year-old drowned at Weißen See in Pankow on Friday before last, and a 17-year-old died there in a swimming accident on June 24. A day later, a 59-year-old man drowned in the airport lake in Reinickendorf.
Against the background of the accidents, the Pankow city councilor Manuela Anders-Granitzki (CDU) warned in a circular to all schools in the district that to use bathing spotsthat are not supervised by lifeguards.
