Fourteen arrests on Urk fishing vessel who wanted to block Ketelbrug, police fine hundreds of farmers | Inland

farmers protest/With videosThe police have handed out several hundred fines around the farmers’ protest. Fourteen Urk fishermen were also arrested because they wanted to block the Ketelbrug on the A6 in the Noordoostpolder with a ship. That is what national commander of the police Willem Woelders says. Many farmers took to the highway with tractors in various places, breaking the rules. Three people on a tractor were injured in an accident on the A12 near Ede.

Thousands of farmers visited the protest manifestation in Stroe in Gelderland yesterday to express their dissatisfaction with the cabinet’s nitrogen policy. According to the organization, 60,000 people with 20,000 trekkers came to the demonstration.

Many farmers came to Stroe on tractors. This caused major traffic problems in the morning. A number of farmers caused endless traffic jams with their tractors on the highways to drive. On the A7 near Drachten, some drove against traffic to avoid a police blockade. The A1 Amersfoort-Apeldoorn was closed for hours in both directions because traffic was stuck.

The organization of the farmers’ protest had just called for avoidance of the national roads. After the demonstration, many farmers returned home with tractors on the highway. Farmers blocked highways in some places, including the A6 at Emmeloord.

Fourteen people on board a fishing vessel were arrested near the Ketelburg on the A6, including two minors. Police expected the ship to try to blockade the bridge in support of nationwide farmers’ protests, reports The Urkland.

Farmers who wanted to do this with tractors on the bridge themselves were also stopped, police commander Willem Woelders said in a statement news hour† Shortly afterwards, traffic on the highway was shut down at Lelystad. The blockades were lifted by the police after a while.

According to the police, the tractors were partly parked on the highway near Emmeloord. Other road users were able to drive past the tractors, but it did lead to congestion. That is why the farmers were ‘addressed, summoned to leave and ticketed’, according to a police spokeswoman. She could not say how high their fine will be.

It is not clear which organization is involved in the attempt to block the Ketelbrug from the water. Two fishermen’s interest groups joined the farmers’ protest against the cabinet’s nitrogen plans last week. They did not exclude spontaneous actions then.

On the A12 near Ede, a tractor driver (40) and two women (37 and 17) from Bodegraven-Reeuwijk wounded. According to witnesses, the tractor had hung its bucket too high, causing it to crash into an overpass, the vehicle suddenly came to a stop and a truck had to swerve.

Not enforceable

Police previously said it was impossible to enforce if tractors entered the highway due to the sheer scale of the action. According to Woelders, the police intervened in the event of excesses. “That all road users get home safely and was also a priority tonight.”

On the A1, for example, farmers who drove on tractors were fined. When they got back on the road after the farmers’ protest in Stroe to go home, they were driving side by side on the highway and therefore created dangerous situations. “They have been stopped, some have been ticketed,” the police said on Twitter.

Delete number plates

In mutual communication, farmers called on each other on Wednesday to remove the license plates from their tractors, possibly to avoid a fine for driving on the highway. The police stated on Wednesday that they could also enforce afterwards, for example by checking camera images. It is not yet mandatory for tractors to carry license plates. Although the rule to do this took effect on January 1, there is a leniency period until July 1 to actually introduce the rule.

Minister Dilan Yesilgöz (Justice and Security, VVD) finds the ‘really not okay’ that farmers drove en masse with tractors on the highway. That’s prohibited. “You’re putting people at risk,” she told this site. ,,Demonstrating is a great thing and is always allowed, but this creates dangerous situations. Then it is no longer about demonstrating.”
