Four million doses have been set

Infection rates remain low, while vaccine coverage increases.

On Sunday, 132 cases of infection were registered in Norway.

At the same time, Norway has paid four million vaccine doses. This is stated by the Prime Minister’s office to TV 2.

The four million doses include both those who have received the first and second dose.

Delta threat

Prime Minister Erna Solberg says that basic protection in Norway is getting better and better, day by day.

– Vaccine coverage means that we can be sure that we will not have the biggest outbreaks. It also means that we will not have to shut down very much if something should happen, says Solberg.

With 600,000 new vaccine doses from the vaccine manufacturer Moderna, hopes Solberg Norway will be able to maintain the vaccine program through the summer.

– We would like to receive more doses from Pfizer, we are working hard on that. All the doses we can get are good news, and the doses from Moderna have been included in FHI’s vaccine estimate for when we are finished.

Does not reverse

Solberg’s biggest concern is the contagious delta variant of the virus. So far, 232 cases of the variant have been detected in Norway.

– The variant appears to be significantly more contagious. We see that several countries are holding back the reopening plans due to the variant now, says the Prime Minister.

But even if the delta worries Solberg, she does not think it will be relevant with austerity measures if the virus were to spread more widely in Norway.

– We are closely following the situation. It will probably not be relevant to reverse anything, but we will probably have to hold the reopening a bit again.

May cause major outbreaks

Solberg emphasizes that at the transition to stage three, more than was planned was opened up.

The government is now considering further reopening steps towards mid-July. There are two areas in particular where it may be relevant to hold back.

– We are on track for the reopening, but the question is how much we dare to open, especially with regard to travel and the largest events.

In the event of a transition to stage four, it will in principle be possible to arrange events indoors with 2,500 people, and outdoors with 5,000 people, if there are fixed places.

When using a corona certificate, there are additional possibilities.

But this may be relevant for the government to hold back on.

– We have seen abroad that if there is an infection at a large event, then we can get large outbreaks.
