Fos Provence Basket takes a slap against Châlons Reims

It was a targeted match against a potentially “accessible” opponent … yet the basketball players of Fos suffered a real demonstration from Châlons Reims (58/88). Tonight Fos was “not up to par” and was “not ready”.

“It’s a great lesson in humility, we fell into the washing machine. We are far from the mark, we have to be honest. We took a slap. Today we were not up to par.” Captain Edouard Choquet was not hiding.

My regret is that we weren’t mean. I had said that we had to play 34 matches like French Cup matches, that was not the case! Collectively and individually we have failed. We will have to be patient. We are not ready ” for his part recognized the coach Rémi Giuitta.

Indeed it was not champagne tonight for the BYers. It is hard to learn at the highest level. The Fosséens wanted to start the championship on the hat of wheels … instead they stalled for their first in Betclic Elite. The BYers were completely dominated by Châlons Reims 58/88. “It was a trap game here, but thanks to our defense, our consistency, our rigor and our control of the rebound (43 to 19) we unfolded our game “ analyzed Champagne Basket coach Cédric Heitz.

A festival of failed actions

A new giant screen, new animations, Fos nevertheless wants to see bigger this season … except for the journalists now crowded, finally for those who were able to have a small workspace. Others had to be content with the steps, their computers on their knees right next to a deafening marching band.

On the field side, we will also have to wait to see bigger.

For the record, it was Terell Parks who opened the scoring and scored Fos’ first basket in this Betclic Elite. But it remains anecdotal given the sequel. We then had the right to a festival of lost balloons, missed shots, air balls, missed opportunities from the BYers and Châlons Reims did not let the gifts pass (2/11, 3rd; 10 / 27, 10th).

Without Diggs and with several diminished players, the Ditch defense never found solutions to prevent the Champagne club from scoring and making a show, with an untenable Gani Lawal (11 points, 83%) and with the former Ditch Junior Mbida precious (8 points, 5 rebounds) … even if there was a very slight improvement for Fos in the 2nd quarter (15/34, 15th; 22/40, 20th).

In a Sports Hall that did not fill up, Bodian Massa and Lasan Kromah tried to sound the revolt after returning from the locker room without it breaking the domination of Châlons Reims (32/55, 25th). The visitors continued to run smoothly (43/67, 30th). And nothing has changed in the last quarter (48/71, 35th) of a match finally folded from the start. The spectators were content with a few bursts of shards like a dunk from Allan Dokossi at the end of the match. Final score 58/88.

Side stats Lasan Kromah finished with 12 points and 5 assists, Allan Dokossi with 11 points and 6 rebounds, Nik Caner Medley with 10 points and 7 rebounds. In Châlons Reims 3 players scored 16 points (Reynolds, Henry and Lawal)

The BYers will have to quickly show another face so as not to relive the same story as their first stint in the Elite in 2018/19 (6 defeats in a row then relegation). They will continue with a trip to Gravelines on the 9th before receiving Orléans on the 15th (the match scheduled for Dijon on October 5 has been postponed). Rémi Giuitta is expecting only one thing to have his entire workforce in order to be able to work in good conditions.

Video reactions to come in the evening on this article.
