Formula E – 2021 New York E-Prix: free practice, qualifying and race, the full program

After a truce of almost a month, Formula E is back in New York, on the Red Hook track. Canceled in 2020, due to the health crisis, the pilots will return to the American stage. 2.320km long and composed of 14 turns, this track is located around the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, with a view of the Buttermilk Canal and the Statue of Liberty. The layout of the “Big Apple” particularly marked the spirits as the closing round, during the 2019 season. A round which awarded the title of champion to Jean-Éric Vergne, at the wheel of his DS Techeetah.

Daniel Abt’s record

The Frenchman, who had already won in 2018, will obviously be one of the players to follow this weekend. Since the last round of Formula E in 2019, Daniel Abt, former Audi Sport Abt driver, holds the track record, with a lap time of 1’11.305. This weekend, during this new edition, the pilots will have to tame a new modification concerning the zone of activation of attack mode. The latter is now placed outside Turn 10.

On the banks of the Hudson River, the eyes will also necessarily be riveted on the Venturi pilot, Edoardo Mortara. The Swiss, who comes out of a victory at the previous E-Prix in Mexico, will be keen to stay on this positive dynamic, while widening the gap with his rival, Robin Frinjs. The Envision Virgin Racing driver had in fact had to give up the leading position in the driver standings to Mortara during the previous round in Puebla. The Dutchman intends to make up for it on a track, which to this day remains the scene of his last victory in Formula E.

Silver arrows

Among the other players to watch this New York weekend, Nissan E. Dams driver Oliver Rowland, at ease in qualifying, should once again make his sheer speed speak. The Briton comes out of pole position in Puebla, and will be able to count on his teammate Sébastien Buemi, holder of four poles on this route. A good result would bode well for the Swiss, relegated to a distant 22nd place in the drivers’ standings. Finally, Mercedes drivers Nick De Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne will also be closely scrutinized. The Silver Arrows are going through a complicated time, especially with De Vries retiring in the previous race. Mercedes will therefore have to roll up their sleeves, to find the outposts as at the start of the season. The first of two races of the New York Formula E E-Prix will be to follow this Saturday July 10, at 10:34 p.m. sharp, while the second race will be to be followed on Sunday July 11, at 7:34 p.m.
