Sebastian Vettel had a good first free practice session in Barcelona, before encountering some difficulties in the second, but the German is rather positive and has high hopes for the rest of the weekend.
“From the start it was a little better” explains the Ferrari driver. “I’ve felt pretty good so far. We’ve tried a few things but I don’t necessarily think they all worked. Now we’re going to try and fix them before tomorrow, and I hope we get even better.”
He does not yet know if the change of chassis was effective: “It’s a different track, different conditions. It’s hard to compare. But I think it was a little easier for me today than in previous weeks. I didn’t have all the answers that I wanted to, but it was better. “
“Friday is always a bit difficult [à juger] because you are still trying a lot of things. We will see tomorrow. If I can do any good tricks, I should be fine. The first places are not possible for us at the moment. If all goes well, we hope we can go to Q3. “
In the other Ferrari, Charles Leclerc did a rather efficient and methodical job: “It was a positive day and again I would say it went better than expected. Our performance in the qualifying setup has been good although there is still work to be done to improve.”
“I have no doubts that we can deliver top performance tomorrow and if I manage to polish the car as I see fit, I think we can also get a good result on Sunday.”
“As for the race simulation, I can be satisfied. We have a large amount of data from this winter but it is not easy to compare it with that collected today under such different conditions. The heat is bearable in track, but when you sit in the cockpit in the garage it feels like you are in a sauna! “
