Shortly after the corona crisis took hold, much of the original Formula 1 calendar was postponed or canceled, including the race at Circuit Zandvoort. Nevertheless, the sport insisted that there would be a championship in 2020. A few weeks later, people actually took action and presented a first concept calendar for Europe. It featured eight races, starting on July 5 in Austria. Shortly after this announcement, Liberty Media announced that it wanted to come with a more extensive calendar before the season opener. Formula 1 has said from the start that it aims for a championship with at least fifteen races. Now that there are eight pinned down in Europe, at least seven more need to be added. Apparently, the coronavirus is sufficiently under control there to be able to race. But China is not the only Asian country to race. According to rumors, Vietnam also appears on the calendar. They would make a statement ‘within a few days’ and that is in line with a possible presentation of the new calendar next Monday. It also makes sense that Formula 1 does not only travel all the way to Asia for a Grand Prix in China.
