‘Formula 1 presents new supplemented calendar for 2020 on Monday’

At an earlier stage, Formula 1 had already promised to perform its new calendar for the start of the season in Austria, but now it seems that this will already be the case next Monday. Among other things, an extra Grand Prix in Italy will be added.

Shortly after the corona crisis took hold, much of the original Formula 1 calendar was postponed or canceled, including the race at Circuit Zandvoort. Nevertheless, the sport insisted that there would be a championship in 2020. A few weeks later, people actually took action and presented a first concept calendar for Europe. It featured eight races, starting on July 5 in Austria. Shortly after this announcement, Liberty Media announced that it wanted to come with a more extensive calendar before the season opener. This seems to be presented tomorrow.

Formula 1 has said from the start that it aims for a championship with at least fifteen races. Now that there are eight pinned down in Europe, at least seven more need to be added. According to the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport tomorrow we will hear which races these will be. Various locations are mentioned in the corridors, including Germany and Portugal. It seems almost certain that we will have a second Grand Prix in Italy. This would take place at the Mugello circuit, the Ferrari test track. According to the Italian medium, this race will take place on September 13.

In addition to an extra race in Italy, we seem to be able to fill in two more races in advance. Dr. Helmut Marko recently announced that the Grand Prix of China will also be on the new calendar. Apparently, the coronavirus is sufficiently under control there to be able to race. But China is not the only Asian country to race. According to rumors, Vietnam also appears on the calendar. They would make a statement ‘within a few days’ and that is in line with a possible presentation of the new calendar next Monday. It also makes sense that Formula 1 does not only travel all the way to Asia for a Grand Prix in China.
