Formula 1 | Latifi has paid off Williams’ debts and may buy team

Williams presented a brand new livery on its FW43 this Friday after the departure of ROKiT. With white and blue as the dominant colors, the British car gives more space to two sponsors: Sofina and Lavazza.

What do they have in common? These are two brands brought by Michael Latifi, the father of Nicholas Latifi. And the Canadian billionaire could just as much invest in Williams, since the rumor of a buyout surfaced.

According to the economic journalist Christian Sylt, Latifi would have already injected the necessary money so that the team can run in 2020 and 2021, notably filling the debt of the team with a payment of 45 million dollars.

And Sylt also confirms, via a source familiar with the matter, that Williams “Never thought of going the way of a Latifi investment. It would be fantastic if he invested more, but Williams wants to go through with the process.”

A process which, if it goes to the end, would therefore go through the sale of the team to Latifi. Nothing is done yet, but it seems that the British team is looking to make Latifi its new owner.
