Former ‘Winner’ Member Nam Tae-hyun Faces Drug Charges and Sentencing

▲ Nam Tae-hyun, a former member of the idol group ‘Winner,’ is answering questions from lawmakers at the Health and Welfare Committee audit held at the National Assembly on October 12. Yonhap News Prosecutors requested a prison sentence for singer Nam Tae-hyun, who was indicted on charges of using Philopon.

The prosecution requested Nam to be sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of 500,000 won at a trial held on the 7th by Chief Judge Jeong Cheol-min of the 7th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court.

Next, broadcaster Seo Eun-woo (formerly Seo Min-jae) was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison and asked to collect 450,000 won.

The prosecutor said, “The defendants are socially known people and their crimes need to be severely punished because they have a significant impact on society.”

Mr. Nam said on this day, “I am currently in a drug rehabilitation facility and am spending time every day reflecting on myself and strengthening myself. “She has been living her life wrong and living her life without responsibility,” she said.

Mr. Seo also said, “I am sorry for what I did wrong. “I may not be able to repay my debt to many people and society, but I will try to become a more conscientious member of society and take responsibility for my mistakes and reflect on them,” he said.

The sentencing hearing will be held on January 18th next year.

Previously, the suspicion of the two people using Philopon arose when Seo Min-jae, a contestant on Channel A’s ‘Heart Signal 3’, revealed her drug use with Nam Tae-hyun on her social media (SNS) in August last year. They are suspected of taking Philopon together at Seo Min-jae’s home in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

Nam Tae-hyun debuted as a member of Winner in 2014, but left the group after two years and formed the band South Club. He was also booked on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) last March.
