Former US President Trump Faces 34 Criminal Charges – Pleads Innocent

The former president (2017-2021) appeared Tuesday before a court in Manhattan where he was charged with 34 serious criminal charges, including falsifying business records and conspiracy in connection with multiple hush money payments, of which he pleaded innocent.

His arrival at the courthouse prompted tight security and a chaotic scene around the courthouse in lower Manhattan.

Supporters and critics of the former White House occupant gathered in front of the venue, while other anti-Trump protesters cheered as he entered the building.

After leaving court, Trump delivered a speech from his luxury residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, where he launched a lengthy tirade against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who indicted him in the case related to the purchase from the silence of adult film actress Stormy Daniels, in 2016.

The grievance characterized his oratory and, as expected, he said that he is a victim of persecution and lashed out at what he called a “lawless” judicial system bent on ending his political career, taking into account that he entered the race for win the Republican nomination for the 2024 election.

He said he never did anything illegal and warned that the charges against him should never have been filed.

He also attacked magistrate Juan Merchán, who is presiding over the case, whom he described as a “judge who hates Trump.”

“They want to catch President Trump at any price,” he said, stating that what happened “is an insult to our country” and “the world is already laughing at us.”

These statements by the former head of the White House occurred in front of a large group of supporters that included allies such as Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, one of those who stood outside the Manhattan courthouse to support him.

Other ongoing investigations fall on the former president 45, including one for his efforts to annul the results of the elections he lost in November 2020; for his instigating role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the federal Capitol, and the discovery of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

The former president’s current lawyer, Joe Tacopina, boasted of his client’s collection figures despite all this scandal and warned that he is preparing “for a battle.”

At the beginning of the week, the former president’s campaign team reported the collection of more than five million dollars since the news of his accusation was reported.

Of that total, more than four million dollars were received in the first 24 hours after the criminal accusation against the tycoon was made public, and more than one million the next day, a member of the ex-governor’s team told the news website Axios.

More than 25 percent of the initial contribution, the ex-president’s collaborators said, came from first-time donors.

Never before has a former president faced such a wide-ranging array of federal, state and congressional investigations as Trump, perhaps the consequences of a business and, ultimately, political career that has lived on the edge or perhaps beyond any limit. , indicated the newspaper The New York Times.
