Former Speaker of the House Khadija Arib has written an angry letter to the members of the House of Representatives. She wants to stop the intended publication of the investigation into her alleged transgressive behavior. Arib accuses her successor, current Chamber President Vera Bergkamp, of “playing procedural games” and “improper and inappropriate” actions.

Bergkamp recently announced on behalf of the executive board of the House of Representatives, the presidium, that the research will be published on October 31. But Arib started legal proceedings in August to challenge the legality of the investigation. The lawsuit will be heard in November, after the intended publication date.

After reporting from De Volkskrant, the letter is also in the hands of NOS. Arib writes that, given the slowness of the investigation, he finds it “inconceivable” that the interests of people “who accuse me anonymously and in secret statements” could be harmed by a few weeks’ delay.

According to Bergkamp, now that the research is complete, it is “in the interest of everyone involved” not to wait longer than necessary to publish.

‘Halt’

Arib addresses all MPs, because Chairman Bergkamp acts on their behalf. “It would behoove the House of Representatives to put a stop to this action and prevent an unlawful report on the unlawful investigation from being released and published before the judge has passed a judgment.”

Arib served in the House of Representatives for 24 years and was chairman between 2016 and 2021. At the end of September last year, it was leaked that the executive board of the House had an investigation into her due to complaints about inappropriate behavior during her presidency.

The presidency had received two anonymous letters. This showed that there may have been “a very unsafe working environment” for civil servants under Arib. She is said to have abused her position and belittled people.
