Former Sepang boss: Mandalika Circuit is natural to be difficult

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Former Sepang Circuit CEO Razlan Razali was not surprised Mandalika Circuit having trouble holding tests and approaching MotoGP Mandalika 202218-20 March next.

Razali said the Sepang Circuit also experienced difficulties when it was first used in 1999, the same as the Mandalika Circuit before holding the MotoGP race next month.

“The Mandalika Circuit reminds me when the Sepang Circuit was first opened in 1999. Each new circuit has its own difficulties, because the track is still new,” said Razali, quoted from Speedweek.

The Mandalika Circuit has received criticism from a number of MotoGP racers after the test that took place last week. The FIM and Dorna then ordered ITDC and MGPA to carry out repairs at the Mandalika Circuit, including re-paving some of the track area.

Despite the problems, Razali believes that the Mandalika Circuit will continue to successfully hold the Mandalika MotoGP on March 18-20.

“When we did the test there [Mandalika]I can already feel the good atmosphere, the excitement, the curiosity and the friendliness of the islanders,” said Razali, who is currently the boss of the RNF Yamaha team.

RNF Yamaha is a replacement team for Petronas Yamaha which changed its name in MotoGP 2022 due to a change in sponsor. The Malaysian team this season has relied on Andrea Dovizioso and Darryn Binder as drivers.

The Mandalika Circuit itself has a target for repairs to be completed seven days before the Mandalika MotoGP. PT. PP as a contractor plans to start repairs today, Sunday (20/2), and is confident that it will be completed on time.
