Cyber spies had access to “top secret details” of talks with international allies, according to the British newspaper. They could also view the private messages that Truss exchanged with his good friend Kwasi Kwarteng. He later briefly became finance minister.

Hackers have been able to download messages from Truss’s phone for nearly a year, the paper said. The theft was reportedly discovered during his campaign to become Conservative Party leader and Boris Johnson’s successor as prime minister.
A government spokesman declined to comment on “security measures for individuals”. The spokesperson said the government is doing everything it can to prevent cyber threats to ministers.
Several opposition parties think this is not enough. “We urgently need an independent investigation to find out the truth,” said Layla Moran, MP for the Liberal Democrats.
