Former newsreader Fred Emmer (85) passed away NOW

Former newsreader Fred Emmer has passed away at the age of 85, that is what his family has on Thursday NOS let them know. In the seventies and eighties he was the face of it NOS News.

His family tells the broadcaster that Emmer died peacefully on Christmas Eve. “We are going to miss Fred enormously. He was a modern, principled, intelligent and sensitive man. Only one of his kind.”

Emmer starts his career as an announcer at the Radio Netherlands. In 1962 the NOS accepts him as a presenter. The news anchor stops there after a short trip to Europa TV, definitive in 1987.

The native of Leiden is the father of composer Stephen Emmer.
