The charges were filed by the Albany County Sheriff on behalf of New York State, accusing Cuomo of putting his hand inside a woman’s blouse and grabbing her left breast in December 2020. In New York, sexually groping someone unintentionally carries a maximum prison sentence of one year.
The woman’s name is not mentioned in the indictment, but his then co-worker Brittany Commisso filed suit in August against Cuomo for allegedly groping her chest during a meeting at the governor’s residence in Albany.
Cuomo, 63, is due to appear in court on November 17, 2021.
Cuomo resigned in August after Attorney General Letitia James released a report that concluded he sexually harassed 11 women, including former staffers. “The criminal charges filed today against Mr. Cuomo for unwelcome sexual touching further confirm the findings in our report,” James said in response to news of the indictment.
Cuomo has consistently denied the allegations and continues to claim that he is the victim of a political backlash.
