The damage of the charter scam that swept Incheon also took the life of a former national athlete.

On the 18th, at the funeral hall of Inha University Hospital in Incheon, a mortuary was prepared for Mr. A (31), who died the previous day. The bereaved family wept and shed tears. Mr. Kim, a neighbor of Mr. A and a victim of the same charter scam, said, “It is so unfortunate that all the bereaved families are having a hard time.”

It is said that Mr. A was an elite player who was selected for the national team in the past as a female hammer thrower. When she was young, she lived in Gangwon-do where she competed as a discus thrower. However, she was placed in a difficult family situation and had to leave her parents and live with her relatives.

After coming down to Busan, he changed his sport to hammer throw and won the national championship. In particular, she competed at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou where she placed fifth in the women’s hammer throw event.

Then, in September 2019, Mr. A made a home in Michuhol-gu, Incheon. It was an apartment prepared with a deposit of 72 million won. Two years later, at the request of the landlord, the contract was renewed with a deposit of 90 million won.

However, the apartment had already become the target of the charter fraud group, and eventually all 60 households were auctioned off. In this apartment, which was completed in 2017, the deposit of less than 80 million won was guaranteed to receive the top priority repayment of 27 million won.

In the end, Mr. A was found dead at home around 2:10 am the previous day. A suicide note was found in the house stating that he was struggling financially.

Another neighbor of Mr. A said, “Until recently, Mr. A said to encourage and cheer up in a group chat room with residents, so it’s even more regrettable.”

On the day of the incident, a water supply unpaid bill with a yellow ticket was attached to the front door of Mr. A’s house. ‘The water bill is in arrears. Please pay after checking 120. In case of non-payment, it will be cut off’. A white chrysanthemum was placed right in front of the front door.
