The CDU parliamentary group congratulates former Mayor Dieter Pützhofen on his 80th birthday. “Dieter Pützhofen helped shape the city of Krefeld for decades as a councillor, member of the Bundestag and mayor. We are more than grateful to him for his services to our homeland,” says the deputy parliamentary group leader, Britta Oellers MdL.

Dieter Pützhofen was a member of the Krefeld City Council from 1975 to 1999. At the same time he was a member of the German Bundestag from 1990 to 1999. “In addition to his great commitment in the city council and in the Bundestag, he is best known in Krefeld and on the Lower Rhine as mayor. First he was honorary mayor from 1982 to 1989 and then from 1994 to 1999, and then in 1999 he became the first full-time mayor of the city of Krefeld. He always had close ties to the Krefeld citizenship and had a keen sense of the concerns of the people of Krefeld,” says Oellers.

In addition to the political mandates Pützhofen was active in many committees and groups. It was not for nothing that he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, in 2000. He also pursued his professional career with determination. Despite completing an apprenticeship as a locksmith, he attended night school in order to later study pedagogy in Aachen. After graduating, he worked as a teacher and rector in Krefeld and later also as a school board and director of the district of Neuss. “Dieter Pützhofen is a real Krefeld resident, for whom the further development of his hometown is and always has been a major concern. On behalf of the CDU parliamentary group in the Krefeld City Council, we would like to thank him very much for his decades of strong commitment in his mandates and the countless hours as a volunteer,” explains Oellers.
