Former international ice hockey player died at the age of 30

Sophie Kratzer has played for the German national ice hockey team for over ten years. But a serious illness ended her life too early.

Former German national ice hockey player Sophie Kratzer from ESC Planegg died last week. This was announced by her family and the DEB. Kratzer has played for the German selection since 2008, taking part in five world championships and the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. Now she died of a serious illness at the age of 30.

“You were such a fine person”

DEB President Franz Reindl: “We are deeply touched and shocked by the loss of our former, extremely well-deserved national team player and likeable colleague Sophie, who cannot be put into words.” The 65-year-old continued: “She was enthusiastic with her great dedication and friendly demeanor on and off the ice. She leaves an incredible gap.”

Her family filed a funeral notice in the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. There the relatives of Sophie Kratzer wrote: “You were such a fine person. We are infinitely sad to have to say goodbye to you and thank you for the wonderful time with you.”

Scratch will be buried on January 25th.
