“Former Idol Sentenced for Sexual Assault and Molestation in First Trial: Court Logo Case”

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Won-jeong = A former member of a 6-member male idol group was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence in the first trial for sexually assaulting and molesting a fellow member.

On the 30th, the 29th Criminal Agreement Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Kim Seung-jeong) sentenced A (25), who was handed over to trial on charges of indecent assault and similar rape, to 2 years and 6 months in prison and 3 years probation. He also ordered the completion of an 80-hour sexual assault treatment program.

Mr. A was charged with touching the body of a member of the same group in the accommodation and practice room from 2017 to 2021. Mr. A quit group activities after the incident.

During the trial, Mr. A admitted to the allegation of indecent assault and reflected on it, but denied the allegation of similar rape.

However, the judge recognized all of A’s charges as guilty, saying, “The victim’s statement is specific and consistent.”

The judge then explained, “The quality of the crime is not very good in light of the method and number of crimes and the age of the victim.”
